LOOK
What's a look?
In fashion photography, a look is a combination of clothes and accessories. Each look refers to a style, either casual, sporty, sexy, executive, classy or chic. In concept fashion photography, the look adds to the story.
How many looks do I bring?
Most fashion photographers work with 3 looks but bring 4-6 different looks if possible so we can choose the most suitable ones and don't forget to accessorize each look (with hat, bag, shoes, belt, scarf etc).
You should bring the clothes that you like the most and accordingly to the style you want to be shot in (casual, sporty, sexy, executive, classy or chic).
Place clothing items on a hanger so they won't be crumpled.
I have no sense of fashion. Where can I get ideas for my looks?
Get your inspiration from fashion magazines like Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, W, Elle, Elle Quebec for Women, GQ, Vogue for Men. Once you found your inspirational looks in magazines try to reproduce them with the clothes you own. If you can afford it, buy some new clothes or rent them.
It's always best that you arrive at the photo shoot with your visual ideas (tear sheets from magazines) so you can tell the photographer what kind of pictures you want.
Do you have any clothes I can rent?
I have a full wardrobe of clothes for men and women of different styles and sizes. If you need to rent some clothes let me know in advance with your sizes and measurements.
For men, I have suits, tuxedos, sport and casual clothing from designers.
For women, I have a full collection of dresses.
PREPARATION
What should I do before a fashion photo shoot? Any tips?
To improve your photogeneity here are easy tips you should do before the fashion photo shoot:
sleep your 8 hours the night before and avoid alcohol and drugs
drink a full glass or pure water first thing in the morning
moisturize your entire body
for women, remove all unwanted hair (legs, bikini, armpits)
for men, trim your legs, shave your face if you want a clean look or trim if you want a more rugged look
moisturize your face and eye contour
don't wash your hair the same day of a photo shoot. Greasy hair always look better on photographs
if you want to do swimsuit or underwear go to the tanning salon 10-15 min twice before the photoshoot to have a nice tan. Don't over do it though as it will ruin your skin.
Should I bring my make up?
Yes, it's always better to be more prepared.
Should I bring my hair products?
Yes, don't forget your flat iron if you have curly hair.
What else should I bring?
For women:
shoes (heels, stilettos, casual shoes, sandals)
underwear (skin tone) and matching bras
underwear black and matching bra
panty hoses (skin tone and black)
accessories (earings, necklaces, sunglasses, hats, handbags, scarf)
make up
hair products
snack
For men
shoes (black shoes, running shoes, casual shoes)
underwear (white)
underwear (black)
accessories (watch, glasses, belt, hat, scarf, etc)
snack
MODEL COACHING
What's "coaching advice" vs. "full coaching?"
For each service, I advise models depending on the type of service and their needs. Advice is part of the time of the photo shoot and lasts 20 minutes maximum. If you need full coaching, we have to add an extra hour before the photo shoot (see Extras).
What kind of coaching do you do?
I coach models and professionals on posing, runway. If you want more information about coaching, let me know.
FASHION PHOTO SHOOT
How long is a fashion photo shoot?
It depends on the number of looks and the project/concept we have to shoot. It lasts 4 hours but can last 1 hour or 2 more depending on the model.
I have never been photographed before, is that a problem?
Not at all. It is my job to capture people whether they are newbies or professional models. The secret is to be you. I work with all kinds of clients, from babies to seniors, from amateurs to professionals, from the housewives to executives.
I am not photogenic.
If you consider pictures shot during holidays or parties, no one looks good due to poor lighting, frontal flash, etc. In a professional studio, we have control of the lighting and your angles so the pictures look fabulous. Besides, I will give you tips on posing so you will look fabulous on your next party pictures.
I am very shy, is there a changing room?
Yes, you will have a closed room to put your clothing and to change outfits.
AFTER THE FASHION PHOTOSHOOT
Will I get to see my picture the same day?
Yes, you will go home with your pictures on a USB key unless you are sent by an agency. In that case, the agency receives the pictures first before the agency gives them to the model.
Do I have to pay for my pictures?
No, unlike some photographers, I will give you your pictures FREE of charge on a USB key unless you are sent by an agency. The format is JPG.
Do I need to bring a USB key?
You need to bring your USB key and make sure you have at least 4-8 gigs of space on the device.
WHAT ELSE SHOULD I KNOW?
Copyrights
In photography (fashion photography or other) the rights of a photograph always belong to the photographer who shot it, even if your face is in the picture and even if you paid for the photo shoot. If you want to own all the rights of the photographs, you have to buy the rights separately.
Why should I sign a model release?
A model release is a document that stipulates the terms under which one party may use pictures taken of another party. It lists the permitted and non-permitted uses.
A model release can say whatever you want it to say, and it can cover whatever period of time both parties agree to. In other words, a model release protects both sides and determines who can use the photos and what they can be used for.
Can I bring someone with me?
Should you feel more confortable coming with someone, I have no problem provided your friend doesn't distract the photo shoot.
If you are under 18, you MUST come with a parent or tutor.
What's a test shoot?
In the modeling business, it's a term used to describe a model's very first photo shoots. The goal here is to see the new model's potential and photogeinity and also build his or her first portfolio.
Do you shoot in color or black and white?
I shoot both ways, color and black and white.
Do I have to pay a deposit before the photoshoot?
Yes. I will ask you a 50% deposit to confirm your appointment. Balance will be paid at the photoshoot.
Payment options
You can pay through Paypal, which accepts major credit cards like Visa, Mastercard, American Express and many more. It is very safe and secure. If you are paying the photographer directly, I accept cash, money order and Western Union payments. Personal cheques are not acceptable.
Is there a bank near your studio?
Yes. In a five-minute range from my studio, you will find the major banks.
Do you only photograph men?
No, I photograph both male and female models from all ages, all ethnicities and looks.
What is the photo file format?
I shoot in RAW and JPG, but you will have the JPG files. If you want both files, let me know.
